Robert Maffitt "Bob" McAllister of Galax, Va. passed away quietly after a long illness on Tuesday morning, April 8th. Born at Rosedale in Alleghany County, Va. on April 11, 1924 to the late Hugh Maffitt & Lillian Brubeck McAllister, this good, honest, and generous man grew up in Covington, Va. served in the United States Navy in the Pacific during the Second World War, and worked as a Certified Public Accountant. He is survived by Gladys, his beloved wife of fifty-six years; sons Charles and wife Jane of Mocksville,NC, and Tom and wife Kathy of Conover, NC; daughter-in-law Debbie of Charlotte,NC; sister Harriet and husband Jim Loving of Richmond, Va; and four grandchildren (Cara, Amy, Brandon and Chase). One son, Bobby, preceded him in death. The Galax Presbyterian Church will hosted a memorial service on Saturday, April 12th at 11:00 am with Dr. Tom Whartenby officiating. The family request in lieu of flowers donations be made to either the James Robert McAllister Scholarship Fund at Galax High School or any charity of ones choice. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:30 until 11:00 am at Galax Presbyterian Church.
