Robert Roger Chappell, 77 , passed away at his home in Galax, VA on Sunday, February 4th, 2018. Bob retired from the city of Galax in 2002 after 28 years of service. He loved woodworking and carpentry. For over 50 years, he built cabinets and furniture for various people in the community. He also loved building beautiful things for his family. He would say "Why buy it, when I could build it?" Because of that notion, over the years he built everything from beautiful dining room furniture and hope chests to cradles and playhouses for his grandbabies. These items will be cherished forever by his family. The pieces he constructed were solid and built to last, just like his love for his family. Another passion of Bob's was his religious beliefs. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in the summer of 1988 and volunteered time each week to share a Bible message of hope with people in the community.
Bob will truly be missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Anne Chappell of Galax,Virignia; children and their spouses Lisa Chappell of Wytheville, Virginia; Rhonda and Robert Foresman of Lexington, Virginia, Jacob and Kalena Chappell of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; grandchildren and spouses Courtney and Buddy Meadows, Bradley and Haley Coots, Brittany and Josh Lakey, Megan Coots, Michaela and Dylan Treadway, Toby Chappell and Amelia Chappell, great-grandchildren Savannah and Pacey Meadows, Bayla Coots; sisters and brother-in-law Josephine Chappell of Galax, Virginia, Ella Mae and Larry Williams of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Mary Ann Lineberry of Walkertown, North Carolina, Shirley Burkehardt of Fries, Virginia, sisters-in-law and spouse Evelyn and Wayne Carico, Juanita and Jimmy Sawyers, brother-in-law and spouse Buddy and Nancy Akers, many nieces and nephews.
