Richard Clark "Crowbar" Smith, age 90, of Galax, Virginia passed away Friday December 24, 2021 in his home.

Richard was born on December 30, 1930 in Grayson County, Virginia to the late Burley Clark and Ida Burcham Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife Mattie Lois Williams Smith and five brothers Paul, Homer, Willard, Kyle, and Billy Smith.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Barbara and Ben Turman of Galax, Virginia, Brenda and David Benfield of Morganton, North Carolina; sister Joyce Patton of Charlotte, North Carolina; brother and sister-in-law B.C. and Ann Smith of Galax, Virginia; grandchildren Daniel and Haley Turman, Julie and Chris Wingfield, Jonathan Benfield; great grandchildren Neveah and Memphis Wingfield, Hazel and Mattie Turman; several nieces and nephews; special caregivers Marie Moss; Brother BC; Sister-in-law Phyllis and Mountain Vailley Hospice.

The funeral service will be held Thursday December 30, 2021 at 11:00AM in the Mt. Vale United Methodist Church with Rev. David Payne and Rev. Ronnie Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Meadow Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00AM until time of the service.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Mt. Vale United Methodist Church (3350 Meadow Creek Rd, Galax, VA 24333) or the Meadow Creek Cemetery Fund (c/o Dale Higgins 3930 Delhart Rd. Galax, VA 24333).
