Richard Corey Byrd age 20 of Fries, Virginia passed away Sunday, December 6, 2009. Corey was born on July 18, 1989 in Roanoke Virginia. He was member of the First Baptist Church in Bassett, Virginia.

He is survived by his parents Kim & Mark Nichols of Galax, Virginia; sister Ashley Nichols of Ferrum, Virginia; brother Hunter Nichols of Galax, Va.; maternal grandparents Sandie & Gene Adkins of Martinsville, Virginia; uncle & aunt Allen & Janie Guynn of Galax, Va.; aunt Boyce Burnett. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Mac (Pinky) Burnett; maternal great-grandparents Edna & Clyde Guynn; paternal great-grandparents Raymond & Freda Burnett.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 6:00 pm in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Lew Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior the memorial service and other times at the home of Kim & Mark Nichols, 11 Coby Knob Lane-Galax, Virginia. Memorial may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 557 Bassett, Virginia 24055 to the Christian Life Center.
