Rhudy Edd Leath, 79, of Galax, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at Blue Ridge Golden Living Center in Galax. Rhudy was born on August 7, 1934, in Carroll County, Virginia.
Although physically disabled, Rhudy was a very determined person and learned to walk at the age of 6 by taking a straight back chair and laying on its back and pushing it all over the hills and hollows. Rhudy continued his determination and became a graduate of Fries School in 1960. Everyone for miles around knew Rhudy for his candy stand near the Fries Post Office. Due to his disabilities worsening, Rhudy walked into the Blue Ridge Golden Living Center in May of 1987 and has been a joy to all the visitors and staff since that day. He even continued selling his candy during his stay at the nursing home by keeping a candy basket on his wheelchair tray with a cup to collect the change in.
Rhudy is preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Gracie Leath; two sisters and their husbands, Monrovia and Homer Isom and Florence and Sam Bourne; two brothers, Marshall Leath and his wife Dorothy and Calvin Leath.
He is survived by one sister and her husband, Eunilee and Frank Bailey, of Pfafftown, NC; one brother, Fred Leath, of Galax, VA; a son and his wife, Roddie and Melissa Leath of Frakes, KY; two daughters and their husbands, Lillie and Kelly Fuson, and Melinda and Johnathon Partin of Frakes, KY; four grandchildren, Stephanie Webb, Kurtis Fuson and his wife Stephanie, Corey Fuson, and Hannah Partin of Frakes, KY; two great grandchildren, Brooklyn Webb and Konner Fuson of Frakes, KY; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend special thanks to all the nurses and staff of the Blue Ridge Golden Living Center for all their love and dedication toward caring for Rhudy.
