Rex Wilson Hampton's Obituary
Rex Wilson Hampton, age 90, of Galax, Virginia, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 at the Golden Living-Blue Ridge Nursing Home, Galax, VA.
Mr. Hampton was born October 16, 1921 in Grayson County, Virginia to Robert Calvin and Elsie Cox Hampton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anne Enola Papy Hampton; daughter, Billie Anne Phelps Whitaker, brother, Rupert Lee Hampton and sisters, Gladys Marie Turner and Roberta Virginia Johnson.
Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Douglas Lee Hampton and wife, Sue Ellen, Rome, GA, David Wilson Hampton and wife, Karen of Oak Ridge, NC; four grandchildren & spouses, Melissa Phelps Pickens and husband, Steve, David Wayne Hampton and wife Jennifer, Heather Hampton Havel and husband, Dan, Keri Lee White and husband, Jack: five great-grandchildren, Maggie and Garrett Hampton, Caden and Ayla Havel and Peyton White.
Rex served his country in the US Navy during World War II. He retired from Appalachian Power Company with thirty two years of service. He was owner/operator of the White Top Cabs of Galax, VA.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Felts Memorial Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Ted Bartlett. After the service the family will receive guests at the home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Twin County Hospice, P. O. Box 70, Galax, VA 24333 and/or Willing Partners, Inc., Food For The Hungry, 544 East Stuart Drive, Galax, VA 24333.
