Ret. Sergeant 1st Class William Henry Kyle (Pete), 70, Born October 14, 1944 passed away at his home in Wytheville, VA, on November 17, 2014. He was born in Galax, Virginia, to the late Charles and Della Kyle.

He attended Oldtown Elementary and Scott Memorial High School in Wythe County. Before joining the U. S. Army at the age of 17. He continued his education by attending Cameron College in Cameron, Oklahoma.

Kyle was awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Military Service Medal, Army Accommodation Medal, Bronze Star, and Cadet Medal, while serving two tours in the Vietnam War.

Before retiring, he spent five years in the Criminal Investigation Department, which dealt with riot control, drugs, and guarding the president, John F. Kennedy. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW Post 2719 in Wythe County where he served as an Honor Guard. He was a member of Oldtown Baptist Church, Galax, Virginia and Watch Care Member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Wytheville, Va. He was a Lifetime member and President of the Wythe County NAACP as well as an active member of the Federal, State, and local Democratic Party. Pete was an avid golfer and a member of Galax Country Club.

Survivors include his wife Shelley Kyle of the home, two Sons and Daughter in Law, Marco (Angie) of Killeen, Texas, Cameron of Wytheville, Va., Eight Grandchildren, three brothers and sister in laws, Reverend Walter J. Kyle, Galax, VA, Conley (Helen) Kyle, Galax, VA, and Zack (Linda) Kyle, Salisbury, NC. Two Sisters, Linda Jenkins, Washington, DC, Shelby Linson, Dallas, TX. Special Nephew Kevin Kyle Winston-Salem, NC and Best Friend Charlie Ramsey, Wytheville, Va. Five Aunts, Rose Maxwell, Ella Davis, Ann Young all of Galax, Va. Andrene Cox, Martinsville, VA. and Lucy Franklin of Fanwood, NJ. He is also survived by a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and friends.

Funeral service will be held Saturday November 22, 2014 at Oldtown Baptist Church, 12 Mockingbird Lane Galax, VA, and Family will receive Friends at 12:00 PM to 1:00 with service to follow. Rev. Larry Cutler Officiating. Burial in Oldtown Memorial Cemetery with Military rights conducted by VFW Post 2719. Barnett Funeral Home, 325 Church St. Wytheville is serving the family.
