Ray Steward Farmer, age 87, of Fries, VA, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015 at the Forsyth Medical Center, Winston Salem, NC.

Mr. Farmer was born May 13, 1928 in Carroll County, VA to Richard Marvin and Martha Ellen Edwards Farmer, In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Hanks Farmer and three brothers and one sister.

He is survived by sons & daughters-in-law, Roger Farmer , Woodlawn, VA, Willard Farmer, Galax, VA, Clayton & Anna Farmer, Woodlawn, VA, Earl & Debbie Farmer, Galax, VA, Mark & Regina Farmer, Fries, VA; grandchildren, C.R. & Angela Farmer, Fries, VA, Brandon Ayers, Bedford, VA, Joseph Farmer, Fries, VA, Allison Farmer, Fries, VA; great-grandson, Trevor Farmer and special friend, Irene Kirby; several nieces & nephews.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015 at the Vaughan Guynn Chapel, Galax, VA with burial to follow in the Crooked Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Monday at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. Officiating minister will be the Rev. Jerry Hodge.
