Ralph Edward Vaughan, 87, of Fries, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord, on August 31, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Katherine (Mary K) Vaughan; two sons, Michael Sandy (and Martha) Napier of Virginia Beach, and Joel (and Kellie) Vaughan, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren: Michael, John Meade and David Napier, and Haley and Zachary Edward Vaughan; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Holcomb and Larma Fulton Vaughan, sister Lauretta Vaughan Lawson, and brothers John Phipps Vaughan and Rufus Warren (Blackie) Vaughan. Mr. Vaughan had one niece and two nephews, and many others by marriage.
Mr. Vaughan was born June 18, 1928 at the family home in Fries, was a 1949 graduate of Fries High School, and a 1946 - 1948 veteran of the United States Navy.
He worked for General Motors Company after graduating high school and spent the rest of his career driving long-haul eighteen wheelers for Blue Ridge Transfer Company in Roanoke and Galax, Virginia. He enjoyed horses, wood working and watching westerns.
Mr. Vaughan was a life-long member, and deacon, of Fries Baptist Church, where he dedicated his heart and life to Jesus Christ in the 1960s.
Funeral services will be held at Fries Baptist Church on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at two o'clock in the afternoon, the Reverend John Williams presiding. Burial will immediately follow at the Fries cemetery. The family will welcome visitors at one o'clock before the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests gifts be made to Grayson Nursing and Rehab Alzheimer's Care, Fries Baptist Church, or the charity of one's choice.
