Delano Vaughan

Ralph Delano Vaughan, age 84 of Galax, Virginia passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in the Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.
Mr. Vaughan was born on August 13, 1933 in Fries, Virginia. He was the eleventh and final child of Robert Lee and Dorothy Margaret Vaughan. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Jerry, six sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Lee and Billy Hunter of Tazewell, Virginia, and his son Mark Vaughan of Knoxville, Tennessee. Also surviving are seven grandchildren Polly, Victoria, Will, Tayloe, Jack, Campbell and Matthew, and one great-granddaughter Ollie Kate, one sister Ruth and one brother George.
He was a graduate of Spartenburg Methodist College and the University of Wyoming. He pitched in the 1956 College World Series for the University of Wyoming Baseball Team and was inducted into the University of Wyoming Hall of Fame on September 15, 2006. He was a veteran of the US Army and was employed at Martin Mariett's Y-12 Plant for thirty-five years. He performed community service thru the Jaycees, Lions Club, Y's Men and Moose Lodge and was member of the First United Methodist Church.
The funeral service will be held Friday, June 1, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in the Fries Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 12 noon until time for the funeral service at the First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request donations be made to either the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 445 Galax, Virginia 24333 or to the Galax Lions Club, 1011 West Stuart Drive, Galax, Virginia 24333.
