Phyllis Wright Handy age 83 of Galax,Va. passed away Monday April 20, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Handy was born in Wythe County, Va. on July 8, 1925 to Roy James & Bernice Bratton Wright. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Claude Hardin Handy and a son Ronald Claude Handy. She is survived by her son Donald Handy of Galax, Va.; sister Daisy Edwards of Trevose, Pa. one granddaughter Amy Vaughan; step-granddaughter Tracy Burnette; two great-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. A memorial service will be held Wednesday April 22, 2009 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church with Dr. Winford Hendrix officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to either the Amercian Cancer Society or Twin County Hospice.
