HAMPTON - Paul Ryan Littreal, 29, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012.
Born in Galax, Va., Paul and his family moved to the Hampton Roads area 22 years ago. He attended Gloucester High School and graduated in 2000 from Jamestown High School in Williamsburg. He began his college education at CNU and then transferred to the College of William and Mary. After graduating cum laude in 2007 with a B.A. in Biology, he began working at VIMS in Gloucester that same year. Having been a Boy Scout, he loved being outside, camping and hiking and anything having to do with nature. Paul's love of nature impacted his recent decision to pursue graduate level degrees in Environmental Science. He was a wonderful cook, and he had recently taken up the art of woodworking. Paul was a wonderful father and he loved his family very much. He was always willing to drop everything and offer a helping hand. Even in death, he continued to care for others by being an organ donor.
Preceded in death by his grandfather, Morris Felts; his aunt, Carol Wolford; and his cousin, Jon Wolford; survivors include his wife, Joni Strawsnyder Littreal; his son, Nathan Ryan Littreal; his mother, Deborah A. Littreal; his stepfather, John Norton; his father, Roger Littreal; his sisters, Sara Littreal and her children, Noah and Lily, and Rachael Littreal; his grandmothers, Joyce Felts and Mary Littreal(of Fries, VA); his grandfather, JD Littreal(also of Fries, VA); his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Maggie and Bill Strawsnyder; his brother-in-law, David Strawsnyder and his wife Ashley and their children, Austin and Abigayle; his aunt and uncle, Vicki and Jack Thomas; a special friend, Tina Whitt; his very close friends, Martin Podbesek and Joe Blount; numerous cousins; and so many other friends who loved him and whom he loved.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by the Rev. Msgr. Robert M. Perkins. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to an educational fund set up for his son, Nathan. Donations may be made at any BayPort Credit Union.
