Ollen Elbert (Shorty) Hines age 91 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015 in the Waddell Nursing Home.

Mr. Hines was born on February 7, 1924 in Grayson County, Virginia to Edgar Herman and Marguedeen Funk Hines. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Bernice Sharp Hines and a son David Hines.

He proudly served in the US Army during World War II and was a Bronze Star recipient.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law Bonnie Harmon of Galax, Virginia; Kay Weddle of Wilson, North Carolina; Teri and Anthony Robinson of Woodlawn, Virginia; sons and daughter-in-law Alan and Joan Hines of Galax, Virginia; Douglas Hines of Independence, Virginia; six grandchildren Johnnie Hines; Jason Hines; Chelsi Stoneman; David Weddle; Cody Robinson and Scotty Hines; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law Ova Jean Turman of Galax, Virginia; Linda and Bud Manus of Franklin, North Carolina; Arlene Funk of Galax, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; special friend Emma Pollard.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Monta Vista Cemetery with Pastor Mary Hessler officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
