Quesenberry
May 31, 1930 – July 14, 2022
Olen Lee Quesenberry, 92, of Galax, Virginia passed away Thursday July 14, 2022 at a Senior Home Share residence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Cassie Lineberry Quesenberry of Galax, Virginia.
Olen graduated from Galax High School in 1948 and worked at Porter Furniture and Fielder Electric in Galax until he joined and served in the US Army from 1951-1953. He was stationed in Nuremburg, Germany during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the US Army, he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois and graduated. Olen then returned to Galax and met the love of his life, Norma Nuckolls and they were married October 8, 1955.
Olen then began working at the office of Vaughan-Bassett Furniture Company in Galax where he worked for 45 years before retiring.
He was multi-talented in his wood working and electrical abilities. Olen was able to repair many appliances and household things that tore up! One of his woodcarvings was displayed for many years in the National Woodcarvers' Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He loved his family, co-workers, and his church, First Christian (Disciples of Christ) in Galax where he served as deacon for several years. Olen also enjoyed talking to people and helping them. He and Norma and daughter Tammy will cherish the many trips that were made. We especially remember the European trips. He was a life member of Moose Lodge 733 in Galax and Grover King Post VFW 1115 in Hillsville.
Olen is survived by his wife, Norma Nuckolls Quesenberry of Galax; daughter Tammy Q. Smith (Doug) of Woodlawn; brother Darrell F. Quesenberry (Linda) of Roanoke; grandsons Phillip (Karen) Smith of Chantilly and Patrick (Katie) Smith of Youngsville, North Carolina; great grandson Gavin Phillip Smith of Chantilly; nephews Gary (Laurie) Quesenberry of Henrietta, New York; Todd Quesenberry of Roanoke; as well as numerous cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church (DOC) in Galax, Virginia on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Glen Sage and Rev. David Rhudy officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 PM until service time. Inurnment will follow at Coulson Church Cemetery, Hillsville, Virginia with military rites.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the First Christian Church (DOC) at 402 N. Jefferson Street, Galax, VA 24333 or for research to help speed a Parkinson's cure at The Michael J. Fox Foundation, P O Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
The family expresses gratitude to the Senior Home Share caregivers, Blue Ridge Home Health, and Medi Hospice.
