Odessa Marie Hawks Payne age 96 of Galax, Virginia passed away Wednesday, November 4,2009 in Twin County Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Payne was born on March 1, 1913 in Carroll County, Va. to Robert Fred & Bessie Hill Hawks. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur B. Payne and son Carlos "C.L." Payne.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Kathy Cooley-Akers and Johnny R. Akers of Hillsville, Va.; sons and daughter-in-law H.K. Payne; Joel Dean & Norma Payne all of Galax, Va.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 2:00 pm in Coal Creek Community Church with Rev. Gary Wilson and Jason Penley officiating. Burial will follow in Coal Creek Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Coal Creek Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday evening from six until eight at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home or friends may call anytime at the home of Kathy-Cooley Akers.
This is a new residence for Kathy and the directions are follow Route 58 East through Hillsville, Va. and take a left onto 221. Take a left on Route 100-Travel approximately four to five miles. Turn right on State Route 783 (Deer Ridge Road) Follow Deer Ridge until you get to Mitchells Crossroad. Take a right and then a right onto Country Woods Drive. Kathy is the last house on the right. House number is 458.
