Nina graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1954 and went on to train and work at Waddell Hospital in Galax as a Lab Technician.  The nursing and lab students lived in a house across the street from the original Waddell Hospital and the Waddell family treated them like their own children.  During that time, she met her husband Buddy Jones when he was in the hospital with a high school football injury.

Nina probably drew blood samples from most of the residents of Grayson and Carroll Counties during her nearly fifty years of service and thousands of "on call" trips on her own or with EMS or the Police coming to pick her up from home in bad weather.  She made everyone laugh and never met a doctor to whom she would not freely give a big hug and her firm opinion.  For that matter, Nina never met a stranger and could become your fast friend instantly and make you glad that you knew her.
