Nelson Roy Jarrell age 88 of Galax, Virginia passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

Mr. Jarrell was born on December 24, 1924 in Galax, Virginia to Noah Bolen and Emma Frost Jarrell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Roy Nelson Jarrell, Jr..

Mr. Jarrell proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He retired as a welder from Bethlehem Steel in Sparrows Point, Maryland in 1985 after 36 years of service. He enjoyed collecting and refurbishing antique clocks. He was a member of the Baywood Wesleyan Church in Galax, Virginia.

He is survived by his wife Edna Harmon Jarrell of Galax, Virginia; daughters and sons-in-law Brenda & Will Young; Nancy & Ralph Mason; Julie & Roop Sharma; son Ronald Jarrell; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Monday, March 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Barry Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Topeco Cemetery with Military Rites by the Hillsville VFW Post 1115. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Baywood Wesleyan Church, 1995 Old Baywood Road, Galax, Virginia 24333.
