Nellie Lavon Petty age 92 of Galax, Virginia passed away Tuesday, December 21,2021 in the Twin County Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Petty was born in Grayson County, Virginia on June 30, 1929 to Lonnie and Blanch Bartlett Carico. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Talmadge Ray Petty; sisters and brothers-in-law Hattie and Frank Trimble; Kate and Curtis Livengood; Peggy and Bob Iroler; Wanda Spurlin Caudell; Edna and Jimmy Lineberry;  brothers and sisters-in-law Mitchell and Nina Carico; Friel and Shirley Mae Carico; Bill and Frances Carico; Orville and Betty Carico; Jake and Shelia Carico.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law Danny and Phyllis Petty; David Petty all of Galax, Virginia; sisters and brothers-in-law Joyce and Raymond Davis of Fries, Virginia; Rachel and Doug Shaw of Independence, Virginia; Shirley and Brady Bryant of Galax, Virginia; three grandchildren  Mark (Terri Lynn) Petty; Sheila Goodman; Dorie (David) Nichols; eight great-grandchildren Megan Petty; Jacob Petty; Wesley Petty; Zaine Goodman; Rylee Goodman; Peyton Hill; Sierra Nichols and Morgan Nichols; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law and spouses Lucille and Glenn Petty; Zollie and Ken Reed; special caregivers Alma Lee Sizemore; Bonnie Trimble; Joyce Cox Reedy and Marsha Hill.

The funeral service will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM in the Mt. Pisgah Church of Christ with Marvin Williams and Lawrence Warden officiating. Burial will follow in the Monta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the Mt. Pisgah Church of Christ.
