Obituary

Nannie Rose Kegley Jones, "Nannie to all, of Galax,VA, peacefully departed a glorious and full 99 year life on Tuesday, December 27,2022. She was born on April 6, 1923, daughter of Charlie and Claudia (Higgins) Kegley.

Nannie's roots were firmly planted in Grayson County, where she lived for the majority of her life, working hard and raising 4 children on her own. Despite unmentionable losses in her early adult life, including the death of three children, Nannie always found many things to giggle and laugh about daily. She loved her family, friends, community and church (Mt. Vale UMC) and never stepped away from someone in need. Whether she was quilting, making apple butter and molasses or helping to prepare a fellowship meal, her dedication to God and her church family will be reembered by many.

In 1963, after her children were grown and gone, Nannie was given a beautiful and loyal gift of Love by her beloved Bob. He completed her life, embracing and loving her family as his own.

Along with being the best Nannie to her own grand kids, she 'Nannie'd' several other children through the years. She cared for them daily and sent them from her home to theirs, feeling just as loved as if they were her own family.

It is certain that on Tuesday, Nannie hurried joyfully into the arms of her daddy and mama, Charlie and Claudia, husband, Robert (Bob)Jones, her daughter, Wanda (Jones) Smith and her sons, Ray Jones and Edgar (Dean) Jones. She, surely, also embraced her infant daughters, Colleen and Henrietta and being reunited with her granddaughter Donna Cressell, her brothers, Ray, Fred and Lee Kegley and her sisters, Nell (Kegley) Miller and Lotus (Kegley) Burnette, all of whom had preceded her in death, was an answered prayer.

Nannie is survived by one son, Charles (Lloyd) Jones (Nona) and her brothers, Earl Kegley and Kyle Kegley (Emmaline) and daughter-in-law, Jackie Jones. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Teresa Farmer (Jim), Jimmy Funk (Frances), Clarence Funk (Barbara), Angie Jones Mills (Lyn), Cherie Jones Melton (Wayne), Robert Cressell (Renee), Debbie Cressell, Gayle Schermerhorn (Dennis), Suzie Medlin; Heather Owens (James) and Sonia Jones (Ben). Nannie was blessed with several great-grandchildren and several great- great- grandchildren not to mention many dear nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM in the Mt. Vale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Lindquist officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the Mt. Vale United Methodist Church.
