Nancy Luzetta Mabe Tolbert age 84 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday at the home of her daughter, Shirley, in the River Hill Community.
She was born on March 27, 1940 to William Anderson Mabe and Hattie Bell Burnett Mabe in Galax, Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Raymond Tolbert, ten brothers Jasper, Lloyd, Marlin, Arland, Grant, Clay, Anders, Warren, Roy and Wallace and one sister Cleona Lineberry.
Throughout her school years, she was known as Lou to her friends and family.
She worked 32 1/2 years at Hanes Knitwear, even when she had a cast on her foot and leg from a nearly fatal car accident in 1971.
She had a great love of gardening (food and flowers). She had beautiful flower gardens wherever she lived throughout the years.
She thoroughly enjoyed making quilts from a very young age, always using a hoop. She said using a machine was not quilting. She was quilting a cross stitch bedspread up until four days before she passed away.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Shirley and Ron Fuller of Galax, Virginia; Debbie and Larry Davis of Hillsville, Virginia; granddaughter and special friend; Sabrena Collins and Alex Ryan; granddaughter and husband Ashley and Zack Hill; great-grandsons Tre Collins and Aiden Hill; sisters-in-law Ethel Mabe of Woodlawn, Virginia; Evelyn Sexton of Dublin, Virginia; brothers-in-law and spouses Gene and Ivy Jean Tolbert; Melvin and Diane Tolbert all of Dublin, Virginia; step-grandchildren and spouses Andrea and Tyler Simone; Andrew Guynn; Briana and earl Staley; Stephanie and Kaleb Prisbrey; several step great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; very special friend of 57 years Geraldine O'dell; special doggies Si, Annie, Molly and Louie.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 11:00 AM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Ray Bolen officiating Inurnment will follow in the Mabe Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 AM until time for the service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
