Murl Steve Bartlett age 59 of Galax, Virginia passed away Monday, December 26, 2016 at his home.

Steve was born in Galax, Virginia on August 22, 1957 to Don and Eula Williams Bartlett.

Steve was a gentle soul who loved people, music, and dancing. Music was a vital part of his very being and he enriched many lives by teaching "shag" lessons locally for years. He participated in several shag clubs and was a member of the Galax Moose Lodge. He was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends, making music and dancing.

Steve spent his working years in business with his father operating heavy equipment. He was at peace and at his best when outdoors working and he took great pride in his construction and landscaping work.

Steve was truly an eternal optimist who enjoyed life and drew strength and vitality by being around his beloved family and friends.

In addition to his parents Don and Eula Williams Bartlett of Galax, Virginia, Steve is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Robin and James Vaught; step-sons Steve Whitaker and Randall Whitaker; brother and sister-in-law Fuzzy and Martha Bartlett all of Galax, Virginia; three step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and his former wife Edith Whitaker.

A memorial service will be held Friday, December 30, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Ted Bartlett officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 9:00 AM until time for the service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123-1718 in memory of Steve.
