May 17, 1940 – January 15, 2024
Milo Gray Padgett, age 83, passed away peacefully, on Monday, January 15, 2024, at Commonwealth Senior Living Memory Care Facility in Abingdon, Virgina, following a long illness.
He was born in Carroll County, Virginia, son of Wilmer "Harold" Padgett and Juanita Alverta Padgett on May 17, 1940..
In addition to his parents, Milo was predeceased by his brother-in-law Larry Christman Funk and sister-in-law, Eva Sue Melton Padgett.
Survivors include his wife, of 63 years, Shelby Jean Padgett; daughter, Kimberly Padgett Shalewitz (Darren Shalewitz); grandson, Matthew Ryan Shalewitz; brother, Rupert Edwin Padgett; sister, Cheryl Elizabeth Padgett; sister-in-law, Brenda Sue Funk; nephews, Dr. Tony Funk (Noela) and John Funk (Michelle).
Milo was a deeply loved husband, father, and grandad, as well as a well-respected leader and friend to many. During his 83 years of life, he brought smiles to so many people's faces and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The funeral service will be held Sunday at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Dr. Tony Funk officiating. Burial will follow in the Monta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 PM until time for the service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
His wife and daughter would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. William M. Handy, MD of Abingdon, Virginia, Caris Healthcare of Abingdon, Virgina, the "Pineapple Family" at Commonwealth Senior Living Memory Care Facility of Abingdon, Virginia, Charlene Phelps and the Woodcliff "family". Without them, this journey would have been so much more difficult, and they will always hold a special place in their hearts.
