Mildred Williams Wilson, age 94, of Galax, Virginia and formerly of Floyd, Viriginia, passed away on Tuesday April 14, 2026 at Commonwealth Senior Living in Hillsville.
Mildred was born in Grayson County, near Galax, on July 1, 1931 to the late Claude and Sina Cooley Williams She was also preceded in death by her husband Glenn Wilson; sister Margaret (Peggy) Williams; and brother George Williams.
She was a graduate of Galax High School and Radford University. She was a payroll clerk for Carnation Milk Company in Galax for several years.
Mildred and her husband, Glenn, moved to Floyd when he took a position there. They raised their children there and she worked for Floyd County Health Department and worked part-time for the office of Floyd County General District Court Clerk.
She was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Galax and former active member of Floyd Baptist Church in Floyd.
She is survived by one daughter, Kay Vest of Roanoke; one son Gregory (Greg) Wilson of Floyd; and one granddaughter Kacie Vest of Roanoke.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00PM on Sunday April 19, 2026 at Hillcrest Baptist Church (1218 South Main Street, Galax) with Rev. James Cowley officiating. Interment will follow at Coal Creek Memorial Park. The visitation will be from 6:00PM until 8:00PM on Saturday April 18 at Hillcrest Baptist Church.
The family extends deepest thanks to the staff at Commonwealth Senior Living in Hillsville, The Empower Me staff at Commonwealth, and the staff at Blue Ridge Home Health Care for their professional care and friendship.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to the Employee Christmas Fund at Commonwealth Senior Living (100 Kyle Drive, Hillsville, Virginia 24343). If you wish to contribute, please make a check payable to CSL-Hillsville. Please include in the memo line: Employee Christmas Fund – Mildred Wilson.
