Mildred Nancy Smith, 74, of Galax passed away Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Wake Forest University Hospital, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was the widow of James Paul Smith.
She was born January 3, 1935 in Carroll County, Virginia to Perfader and Sara Ring.
Surviving are daughter & son-in-law Nancy & Mike Cain of Shallotte, North Carolina; son and daughter-in-law Jimmy and Karen Smith of Spring Valley, Virginia; grandchildren Katy, Emily & Bays Smith, Timmy, Jon & Josh Vaughan and Mark Cain. Great Grandchild A. J. Vaughan, step great grandchild Michael Dunford. Also sisters and brothers-in-law: Bonnie Cornett of Galax; Norma & Fred Crouse of Germanton, North Carolina; Claudette & Mark Underwood of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at the Meadow Creek Union Baptist Church with Revs. Bill Ring and Ralph Alley officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, January 12, 2009 from 6 until 8 o'clock.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Meadow Creek Union Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Dale Higgins, 3930 Delhart Road, Galax, VA 24333
