Mildred Elizabeth Johnson Sawyers better known as Betty Sawyers age 81 of Fries, Virginia passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 in the Twin County Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Sawyers was born in Grayson County, Virginia on October 23, 1931 to Samuel Thomas and Myrtle Myers Johnson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Eldridge Sawyers.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Meta and P.J. Smith of Hillsville, Virginia; sons and daughter-in-law Ronnie J. Sawyers of Galax, Virginia; Larry A. and Darlene Sawyers of Fries, Virginia;
grandchildren and spouses Kevin Sawyers; Heather and Rob Martin; Chuck and Allison Sawyers; Keri Sawyers; Lovina and Justin Goad; Joe P.Smith; Kileigh Smith; Deanna Smith; four great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law Jo Ann and George Jones of Fries, Virginia; Connie and Jerry Moss of Independence, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Fries Baptist Church with Rev. John Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Providence Cemetery. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior the funeral service Sunday at the church. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from six until eight at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.

The family will be at the home of Larry and Darlene Sawyers, 52 Kettle Lane, Fries, Virginia.
