Obituary

MILDRED COCHRAN DICKERSON, 95, passed peacefully into the arms of Her Lord on May 18, 2015, at the Waddell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Galax, Virginia. She was born May 20, 1919, to Blanch Allen Cochran and Fitzhugh Lee "Boy" Cochran in Castleton/Patterson
area of Wythe County. The oldest of their five children, she was predeceased by all of her siblings - Charles Pete Cochran, Sr., Oleda C. Burnette, Nancy C. Wilson and Horace Allen Cochran. She married the love of her life, the late Tucker Wales Dickerson, on June 28, 1945, in Galax. She was also predeceased by a nephew and niece, Charles Pete Cochran, Jr., and Vickie Burnette Gillespie.

She attended Radford University and worked in Newport News, Virginia for the Virginia State Police as a driver's license examiner for a number of years before moving back to Galax, Virginia and becoming an employee of what was then First National Bank of Galax where she
rose to the position of loan officer over her thirty-six (36) years of faithful service. She retired from the bank in 1984.

Mildred was a deacon and assistant treasurer of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Galax and a member of the Comrades Sunday School Class. She was a good and faithful servant to her church family and she and Nancy were known throughout the community for their card ministry of sending cards every week to shut-ins and people grieving or ill.

She is survived by her loving family, nieces and nephews: Debbie Wilson and Miles Compton; David and Diane Wilson; Connie and Jack Chafin; Bobbie and Jerry Poe; Mike and Kay Cochran; Cathy and Ike Cruise; Denise Burnette and Rupert Fink; Cynthia and Mark Conway; Alan and Cindy Dickerson; Kim Dickerson; Jay and Peggy Dickerson; and Ray and Christy Dickerson; sisters-in-law, Geneva Cochran, Nadene Dickerson and Iris Dickerson; several great nieces and great-nephews; several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, many cousins and
a host of good friends also survive.

Graveside services will be held at on Wednesday May 20 , 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Monta Vista Cemetery, Galax. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 402 N. Jefferson Street, Galax, Virginia.
