Mike
Chapman
April 4, 1944 – May 1, 2021
Mike Chapman was also known to some as Poppy or Pop. He quite possibly could have been known as some other more colorful names, and if you truly knew Pop you'll understand. He was a man who exemplified strength and perseverance. He survived war and cancer. He survived raising two children…that's a feat of its own. Not to mention a strong-willed theatre doing grandson. He was a teacher and could give directions like nobody's business, sometimes to the point of insanity. He brought people together. The man could cook. He was a great carpenter in his time. He loved watching T.V. and surfing the web in his later years all while holding his three dogs. Mike loved his family, country, and friends. Mike was a man of faith who enjoyed serving as a ministry lay person both at home and abroad. He travelled all over the world with his loving wife spreading the word of the God. Although, they enjoyed their trips abroad to places such as Bolivia and the Philippines they also served the Lord at home by providing shelter to anyone in need. He was a retired Vietnam Veteran who proudly served his country for 20 years. Mike retired from the US Navy chief petty officer RMCS. It was his honor to a part of the Presidential Communications team that was crucial in the recovery of the Apollo 11 astronauts on July 24, 1969 after the first moon landing. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Alice and Gerard Chapman and his sister and brother in-law Patricia and Chuck Elmore. He leaves behind the love of his life Alexis Wells Chapman, who he was married to for 57 years. His son Michael (Denise), his daughter Rebecca, grandson Adian (Godmother Sally), and brother Anthony (Cathy). He is also survived by an array of extended family members and friends including Lorie, Dave, Niva, and his three dogs (Anna, Sassy, and Lizzy) .
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Haven Rest Bible Church. Special thanks to Pastor David Spivey. At this time there will be no service.
