Michael Edwin Kirby age 67 of Galax, Virginia passed away peacefully with family at his side on Monday, February 20, 2023 in the New River Valley Medical Center.

He fought a courageous battle and never gave up, But the Lord saw his pain and gave him his wings.

Mr. Kirby was born in Galax, Virginia on September 1, 1955 to Paul Edwin and Mary Kanode Kirby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Delmar and Lattie Kanode and his paternal grandparents, Paul and Imogene Kirby.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Michael and Kayla Kirby of Galax, Virginia son Daniel Kirby of Hillsville, Virginia; daughter Mary Edmonds of Hillsville, Virginia; grandson Christopher Kirby; granddaughter Alyssa Kirby; plus four additional grandchildren; sister Debbie Kirby Anderson of Galax Virginia; many cousins and aunts and special friends Linda Caudill of Fries, Virginia and Anthony Choate of Galax, Virginia.

Michael loved his family and friends and loved the outdoors He loved riding motorcycles, four wheeling with his friends, Nascar and fishing.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and Dr. Fant at Grayson Nursing and Rehab in Independence, Virginia for taking such good care of Michael the last eleven months. We also want to thank Twin County Hospital ER for fighting for his life. Also, Carillion Air Care for kindness and support and the CC Unit at the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center for the care they gave to Mike . Thank you, Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, for the compassion and assistance during this difficult time.

A memorial service will be held for Michael on Saturday March 25, 2023 at the Fairview Baptist Church, 3543 Skyline Highway, Galax, Virginia at 2:00 PM with Pastor Sam Holder officiating. The family will receive friends and family 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. There will be food and drinks in the Fellowship Hall after the service and everyone is welcome.
