Michael Shane
Gray
February 26, 1989 – October 27, 2024
Michael Shane Gray, 35, of Galax, Virginia passed away on October 27, 2024. He was a beloved
son, grandson, brother, friend, and father whose bright smile, determined spirit, and joyful
personality touched everyone he met.
Shane was born February 26, 1989, in Galax, Virginia. Shane spent his younger years
participating in Boy Scouts and playing sandlot football. As he grew older, he played for the
Maroon Tide golf and baseball teams, was an active youth group member at Mission Love
Church, and a cadet with the Galax City Fire Department. Shane graduated from Galax High
School in 2007 and went on to live in Delaware where he spent his free time riding motocross.
After traveling with work, Shane made his way back to Virginia and could be found spending
time with his girlfriend, Sarah, helping friends and family as a mechanic, attempting to play the
guitar, or on a golf course with his best friends and family.
Shane was known as "Uncle Shane," to his younger cousins and made sure to be involved and
present in their lives. His friends and family describe him as a thoughtful, intelligent and having
a big heart. His dedication to those he loved will be celebrated forever. His greatest
accomplishment, and the biggest joy of his life, was being a father to his "K-Bug."
He is survived by his daughter, Kynslee Gray; his grandmother, Louise Gray, his parents, Mike
and Anita Gray; his older sister and brother-in-law, April and Jason Leone; his niece and nephew,
Evelyn and Wesley Leone, numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
A celebration of Shane's life will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral
Home in Galax, Virginia at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Woynal Smythers officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 PM until time for the service where family and friends are invited to honor his time with
us. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to your favorite charity be made in Shane's
memory.
Though his time was brief, Shane's legacy of love, humor, and compassion will forever resonate
in the hearts of those who knew him.
