Melton Matthew Hamby age 79 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday in the Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center.

Mr. Hamby was born on September 22, 1938 in Surry County, North Carolina to Gaither and Ida Morris Hamby. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Jeanette Blevins Hamby and son Daniel Hamby.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Todd and Kelly Hamby of Independence, Virginia; grandchildren Kara Hamby; Cody Norman; Tanner and Kimberly Hamby; two great-grandchildren Ty Hamby and Hayden Hamby; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Dr. Ronny Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 PM until time for the service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
