Obituary

Melanie Snow passed away on November 1 st , 2022. She was born on May 23, 1975, to Dickie and Bonnie Choate of Woodlawn. Proceeding her in death were her grandparents, Ralph and Evelyn Phipps and Ray and Emily Choate.

She graduated from Carroll County High School in 1993. She also received a certificate (1 year program) in Pharmacy Technician from Wytheville Community College, in which she was certified in Virginia. Her biggest passion was being a Pre-K teacher at Laurel Elementary School. She loved working with Mrs. Somer and Mrs. Davis and thought very highly of them.

She volunteered 5 years for Twin County Hospice. Melanie was also a member of the Galax chapter Women of the Moose. She held the highest degree, which was a Senior Regent. She was also a member of the Woodlawn Ruritan Club for 24 years.

Pastor Terri reintroduced her to church life that allowed her to attend Mount Olivet UMC with her family. She really enjoyed listening to Pastor Terri preach. She volunteered at our church activities, which were the Easter egg making, Halloween Trunk or Treat, and her focus was sending letters for the sermons out to fellow church members that cannot attend church. She always loved doing what she could when she could no matter how little.

Melanie loved all the sports and loved watching her children play them. She was always their biggest supporter. Her kids always came first in her life including her dogs. She taught her kids the value of volunteering. She was an amazing mother that gave us everything she could and always made sure we were loved.

She had Cushing's disease and fought a hard battle, which ending up with her having brain surgery and gamma knife radiation. She had a lot of health problems up until her death.

She received a dog named Gracie right before her brain surgery. Gracie was always known to be her saving grace. She was extremely loved by her.

Melanie is survived by her parents, Bonnie and Dickie Choate, her husband Albert Snow, her daughters Hannah Lynnette Snow and Hayley Lynn Snow, her son Lane Alexander Snow, brother and sister-in-law Dickie Jr. and Emily Choate, aunts and uncles Tommy and Barbara Phipps, Sue and Michael Dickens, Katie and Verlin Bowman, nieces and nephews Preston and Kyleigh Choate, Trey and Monica Choate, and Cade and Megan Snow, great nieces and nephews Ava, Cooper, Nate, Zade, and Theodore. And two very special baby dogs, Gracie and Hazel.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 PM in the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terri Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in the Felts Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 PM until time for the funeral service at the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church.
