Mayme E. Alderman Childers, 93, of St. Joe passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016, at DeKalb Health in Auburn.
She was born April 29, 1922, in Galax, Virginia to George P. and Lou (Sayers) Roberts. She was a graduate of Galax High School and was raised as a Christian in the Methodist denomination.
Mayme worked for the Belk Department Store and Roses Department Store in Galax, Virginia, Burlington Industries in Burlington, North Carolina, and after moving to Indiana owned and operated a fabric shop in Waterloo. She also was a homemaker.
Surviving are a daughter, Patsy Doub of St. Joe; a son, Gary Alderman of Boones Mill, Virginia; two grandchildren, Tammy Seifert of Auburn, and Paige Akins of Bent Mountain, Virginia; six great grandchildren, Kyle Stuart, Payton Seifert, Saylor Seifert, Erin Akins, Tristen Akins, and Easton Seifert; and two sisters, Carrie Mae Crawford of Asheboro, North Carolina, and Ora Roberts of Graham, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Jeddie Alderman of Hillsville, Virginia; her second husband, Ralph Childers of Garrett; a son, Rolet J. Alderman; a sister, Vada Wilson; and two brothers, George Roberts and Homer Roberts.
Funeral service will be held Friday, March 18, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. Interment will follow in Monta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 12 noon until time for the service.
