Maude Walker Smith age 92 of Galax, Virginia passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018 in the Commonwealth Assisted Living in Hillsville, Virginia.

Mrs. Smith was born in Carroll County, Virginia on September 11, 1926 to Thomas Wade and Thelma Blanche Green Melton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Ernest Walker and her second husband Herman Smith; daughter Patty Copeland; sister Dossie Higgins and brothers Lonnie Melton and Ed Melton.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Mary and J.B. Gardner of Hillsville, Virginia; grandchildren and spouses Sally and Perry Brown; Amanda Gardner and Jay Helfers; John Allen and Kelsey Gardner; Holly Copeland; Courtney and Scott Tate; great-grandchildren Isaiah Brown; Brookelyn Funk; Jackson Helfers; Maggie Tate; brother Lewis Melton of Galax, Virginia.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Pastor Wendell Horton and Pastor Kent Allender officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from six until eight at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
