Mary Elizabeth Cato Waddell passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on October 31, 2018 at Trellis Supportive Care surrounded by her family. Services will be held Sunday, November 4 ^th at 2 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Galax.

Mary was born on July 27, 1934 in Galax, Virginia to Phillip Maddox Cato and Hazel Lee Hackler Cato. She lived in Galax in her early years where she attended elementary school, and moved with her family where she attended high school in Chase City, Virginia. She also attended the University of VA School of Nursing after high school. After raising four girls, she remained in Galax until 1977 and moved to Winston Salem where she worked as an Office Manager for a dental practice until her retirement. She moved back to her beloved Galax in 2001, but went back to Winston in 2014 to be near her children.

She is preceded in death by her father, Phillip M Cato; mother, Hazel Hackler Cato and sister, Hazel Lee Cato McLawhon. She is survived by her four daughters, Teresa Lynn (Richard) Jones of Austell, Ga; Patricia Anne (Jimmy) Miller of Gardner, Kansas; Elizabeth Leigh Waddell and Nancy Carol (Robbie) Jones, both of Winston Salem. Seven grandchildren who were the loves of her life; Drew Doss, Kyle Jones, Chris Miller, Trent Jones, Derek Doss, Lindsey Miller and Paige Doss (Andy Summitt). Four nephews and nieces: Greg McLawhon (Cindy), Ann (Jim) Wetmore, Susan Shipley and Crista Cato Manieri.
