Mary Lee Rakes, 69, of Galax, Virginia passed away Saturday July 13, 2019 at her home. Mrs. Rakes was born October 5, 1949 in Grayson County, Virginia to Billy and Mary Turner Martin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Valerie Wade.

Mary is survived by her husband Gordon Rakes of Galax; daughter and son-in-law Susan and Robert Maxwell of Portland, Tennessee and grandchildren Joey Duff and Darien Duff of Raleigh, NC. Also surviving is step-father Roy Barrett; brothers and sister-in law Jack and Betty Martin of Grayson County, Darren Barrett of Fries; sisters Vicky Dowling of Silver City, N.C., Billie Martin of Fries; several nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday July 16, 2019 in the Providence Cemetery at 10:00 AM. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
