Mary Witcher Lanter, age 80, of Galax, Virginia passed away Saturday July 27, 2019 in the Grayson Nursing and Health Care Center.

Mary was born on October 25, 1938 in Grayson County, Virginia to the late Robert and Mae Porter Carrico. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Carroll Dean Lanter.

She is survived by her children and spouses Robert and Donna Lanter of Pontiac, Illinois, Edward and Rose Lanter of Salisbury, N.C., Cara and Billy Hamm of Port Deposit, Maryland, Kimberly Lanter and partner Mike Gallimore of Mt. Ulla, North Carolina. Also surviving are grandchildren Shane Lanter, Jennifer Little and husband Larry, Josh Hamm and wife Kristin, Josie Lanter, Dylan Sigmon; great grandchildren Caleb Lanter, Kevin Little, Peyton Little, and Joshua Hamm Jr. Mary had a very special bond with her great granddaughter Peyton Rose.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Pastor Tim Porter officiating. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home at 1:00 PM until time of the service.
