Obituary

Mary Higgins Brewer, age 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at her home in Galax, Virginia.

She was born in Carroll County, Virginia on May 14, 1931 to the late Jack and Lessie Cox Higgins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters Norma Jean Melton and Katherine Sue Pierce; brother Ray Jackson Higgins.

She is survived by her husband, Earl James Brewer of Galax, Virginia; daughters and sons-in-law Patricia Cooley Crigler and Dr. William H. Crigler of Lexington, South Carolina; Cathy Brewer Felts and Richard Felts of Galax, Virginia; grandchildren James Lee Felts; Clinton Higgins King; Michael Richard Felts; Jonathan William King; great-grandchildren Cordelia Felts; Daphne Felts; Kael Felts and June Felts; sister Kate Vaughan of Galax, Virginia; brother and sister-in-law Tom and Loretta Higgins of Floyd, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; special caregiver Linda VanHoy.

Mary was dedicated to her family and demonstrated a strong work ethic to her family throughout her life, serving as the longtime manager of Globman's in downtown Galax.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Pastor Ernie Smith and Nathan Crowe officiating. Burial will follow in the Coal Creek Cemetery. The family will receive Friday evening from six until eight at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
