Mary Wright
Harrison
April 4, 1929 – May 30, 2025
Mary Wright Harrison, age 96, of Galax, Virginia passed on Friday night, May 30, 2025.
She was born on April 4, 1929, to Tolbert and Robena Sells Wright in the Oldtown Section of Grayson County, Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harlon Harrison; daughter Lois Ann Harrison; son Randy Harrison; two brothers Joe Wright and Pete Wright; and sister-in-law Betty Wright.
Mary loved God, family and friends. She was an employee of Hanes-Sara Lee for twenty-eight years before she retired. She was a member of Galax Friends Church where she taught Sunday School and served as Recording Clerk. In 1989-1999 Mary was selected Worthy Matron of the Galax Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star where she was a member for many years.
In later years she loved attending class reunions with her classmates from the GHS class of 1947. She worked word puzzles, read the newspaper, and shared stories about people and events from her past. Her memory was excellent for her age.
Each visit she received from family and friends brightened her days, especially those of her many caregivers who showered her with love and attention. A niece gave her the title "Queen Diva" which delighted her.
Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Larry Combs of Cana, Virginia; two grandsons and their spouses Daniel Harrison and Amanda Reinholtz of Eugene, Oregon and Stuart and Jessica Harrison of Moseley, Virginia; great grandchildren Ellis, Remy, Waylon, and Quinn; sister-in-law Joyce Wright of Galax, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday June 7, 2025, at 1pm at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home with Pastor James Howell officiating. Burial will follow in Monta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until time of the service in the Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to God's Pit Crew (2499 North Main St. Danville, Virginia 24540) or Gideons International (2973 Glendale Rd. Galax, Virginia 24333).
