Marvin McKinley Shaffner age 85 of Fries, Va. passed away Thursday night in Golden Living Blue Ridge Health Care. Mr. Shaffner was born on September 24, 1921 in Carroll County, Va. to the late Tyra & Addie Bourne Shaffner. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Sam Shaffner. He is survived by his wife Della Hill Shaffner; daughter Phyllis Shaffner Barker; son & daughter-in-law Billy & Debbie Shaffner; sisters Edith Linville, Marie Pearman, and Onita Bourne; brothers Earl Shaffner, Kyle Shaffner, Coy Shaffner and Virgil Shaffner; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 20, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Blevins; Rev. Ronald Gravley and Rev. Gloria Lancaster Rhudy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Rites by Hillsville VFW Post 1115. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from six until eight at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Fries Rescue Squad, Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church or the Grayson County Relay For Life in honor of Debbie Shaffner.
