Martha Jane Thornton's Obituary
Martha Jane Thornton age 73 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010 at the Carolina Medical Center.
Mrs. Thornton was born in Virginia on March 25, 1937 to Thomas Lee and Ruby Jennings. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands James Thornton and Rufus Spells; a son James Thornton III and brother Bill Jennings.
She is survived by her children Michael Thornton, Jeffrey Spells and LaDonna Thornton all of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers Lawrence Jennings, Raymond Jennings and Ralph Kyle all of Galax, Virginia; Leon Jennings of Brooklyn, New York; sisters Christine Maxwell, Louise Willis and Leona McKinney all of Galax, Virginia; Frances Thompson of Elk Creek, Virginia; Hazel Ferguson of Datona, Florida; grandchildren Ralph Thornton; Kristian Kipp and Darian Thornton.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 1:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Larry Cutler officiating. Burial will follow in the Goins Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:30 AM until service time at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
