Marie Hazel Smith age 75 of Independence, Virginia; passed away Friday , August 16, 2024 in the Galax Health and Rehab Center.

Marie was born on September 22, 1948 in West Virginia to Elmer Hankins and Helen Faye Wooten Hankins Reeves. In addition to her mother Helen Faye Wooten Hankins Reeves and father Curtis Reeves, she was preceded in death by her brothers Bobby Reeves; Jimmy Reeves; Jesse Hankins and John Colburn; sisters Frances Woods and Carol Lammey; grandson Joshua; numerous aunts, uncles and her children's father Charles Ford.

She is survived by her husband Lonnie Smith of Denton, North Carolina; daughter Helen Ford; sons and daughters-in-law Kenneth and Mary Ford; Eddie and Louise Ford; brothers and sisters-in-law Curt and Joyce Reeves; Roger and Sharon Reeves; Charlie and Vickie Reeves; Steven and Michelle Reeves; sisters and brothers-in-law Linda and Larry Bennethum; Joanne and Raymond Bennett; Charlotte Lapp; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Kathy Collier officiating. Burial will follow in the Crab Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
