Marie Katherine Haga age 91 of Galax, Virginia passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2015 in the Blue Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center.

Mrs. Haga was born in Carroll County, Virginia on August 16, 1924 to Henry and Jenny Allen Gillespie. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Dean Haga; son Tony Haga and brothers Dewitt Gillespie, Carroll Gillespie, Joe Blake Gillespie and Johnny Gillespie.

Marie was a lifelong resident of Galax, Virginia. As an entrepreneur, she owned and operated Dean's Amoco, Marie's Restaurant and she owned the first automated car washes in the area. She also worked for the Radford Arsenal and for Hanes Knitting. She spent 29 years working for Rooftop of Virginia where she retired as the director. She had a heart for helping people and she loved spending time with her great-grandchildren

She is survived by a grandson and his wife Kelly and Susan Haga of Galax, Virginia; daughter-in-law Hilda Walters of Independence, Virginia; great-grandchildren Tate Haga, Jack Haga and Sophie Haga; sister-in-law Naomi Gillespie of Galax, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, October 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Lee Houston officiating. Burial will follow in the Monta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 4600 Park Road, Suite 100 Charlotte, North Carolina 28209.
