Magelene Campbell McKenzie, better known as Maggie McKenzie, age 78 of Galax, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at her home.

Maggie was born on May 5, 1946 in Grayson County, Virginia to Francis Jackson and Stella Mae Bourne Campbell. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Adams and Darrell of San Antonio, Texas; her granddaughter and granddaughter-in-law, Kelsey McCarter and Megan of Asheville, North Carolina; her brother and sister-in-law, Dallas Campbell and Clara of Fries, Virginia; her in-laws, Wilma Campbell of Max Meadows, Virginia, Donald Higgins of Conway, South Carolina, and Jack Cornett of Independence, Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

After the graveside service, all loved ones, friends, and family on both sides are invited back to Maggie's house (298 Windmill Road in Galax) for her celebration of life starting at 5:00 PM. To ensure that there is enough seating, people are asked to bring their own lawn chairs if possible.

This celebration of life will be a potluck. People are encouraged to bring their favorite dish, or a dish that Maggie loved, or a dish that meets dietary requirements (such as meatless, dairy-free, gluten-free, etc.) so that everyone can celebrate Maggie through the sharing of food which was one of her many talents and lifelong favorite things to do.

She was also highly skilled at sewing beautiful clothes, dancing to her favorite music, catching fish on the first try, decorating, and crafting. Maggie loved her family deeply and spoke with them everyday. She was devoted to her church and dedicated much of her life to helping there.
She adored watching birds come to her many feeders and listening to their many songs.

People are welcome to bring indoor and outdoor plants to the celebration of life to honor Maggie's passion for gardening and flowers and to bring more life to the home.

Through this memorial service and celebration of life, Maggie's family strives to give her a wonderful and loving farewell together with all those who have been part of her life. They want to thank everyone for their kindness and support during this difficult time and are looking forward to hearing everyone's positive memories of Maggie and cherishing the time together.

Rest in peace and be with God, we love you Maggie.
