Mabel Stone Thompson age 98 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012 in the Waddell Nursing Home.
Mrs. Thompson was born in Galax, Virginia on September 22, 1913, daughter of the late Dexter and Sally Fisher Stone.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, a past member of the Junior Woman's Club, a talented artist, and a friend to animals. She was an avid traveler and had visited all fifty states.
She was the widow of J.R. "Pete" Thompson and is survived by a nephew, Thomas Stone and wife Sue of Roanoke, Virginia; a great-niece Lisa Lane of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and a dear and special-in-law Effie G. Thompson of Carroll County.
It was her request that her body be donated to medical science in hopes that her passing would benefit others.
The family would like to express their appreciation to her friends and to her wonderful neighbors in the Fairview community, especially to Robert Whitaker and family, and to the kind and caring staff of Waddell Nursing Home.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Gregory officiating.
