Luther Joseph Hanks, Sr. age 84 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday, July 11,2010 at his home.

Mr. Hanks was born on June 6, 1926 in Carroll County, Virginia to Charlie and Laura Hanks. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Thomas Wesley "Red" Hanks; brothers Lonnie Hanks and Gene Hanks; sisters Stella Chandler, Ethel Burcham and Marie Crowder; step-brothers Arnold, Malvin and Fizer Frazier.

He is survived by his wife Ida Louise Hanks of Galax, Va.; daughters and son-in-law Judy Royal; Sue and Daniel Loggins all of Galax, Va.; sons and daughter-in-law James and Dannette Hanks of Dobson, N.C.; Luther Hanks, Jr., Danny Ray Hanks and Larry Wayne Hanks all of Galax, Va.; sisters and brothers-in-law Elene Pope; Katherine and Kyle Frazier; Myrtle and Russell Bridge; brothers and sisters-in-law Dennis and Marie Hanks; Donald and Fern Hanks; six grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 2:00 pm in Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in Monta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday eveing from six until eight at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
