Louis Ray Umberger age 76 of Galax, Va. passed away Monday, March 2, 2009 at Northern Surry Hospital. Mr. Umberger was born on December 3,1932 in Wythe Cunty, Va. to Harmon David & Ola Akers Umberger. He is survived by his wife Virginia Umberger of Galax,Va.; son David Lee Umberger of Winston-Salem, N.C.; sisters & brothers-in-law Lois Umberger & William Whitehurst of Lynchburg, Va.; Sue & Donald "Leon" Coffey of Wytheville, Va.; step-son & wife Curtis Wayne & Faye Spears of Galax, Va.; several nieces & nephews. The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 3:30 pm at Mt. Olivet Community Church with Rev. Bob Adams & Rev. William Whitehurst officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by Hillsville VFW Post 1115. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior the funeral service at the church.
