Lois Virginia Nelson Pierce age 79 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 in the Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center in Independence, Virginia.

Mrs. Pierce was born in Grayson County, Virginia on May 9, 1937 to Albert Monroe and Elizabeth James Nelson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Billy Nelson.

She is survived by her husband William Austin (Billy) Pierce of Galax, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Randy Bitikofer of Raleigh, North Carolina; son and daughter-in-law Greg and Erin Pierce of Greenville, North Carolina; grandchildren and spouse Kari and Scott Jones; Austin Bitikofer; Madeline Pierce; Peyton Pierce; great-grandchild Mason Jones; brother and sister-in-law Loyd and Shirley Nelson of Pinehurst, North Carolina; sister-in-law Mary Nelson of Comers Rock, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Pierce and Harold Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Monta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 PM until time for the funeral service at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
