Obituary

Linda Messersmith Hudson of Woodlawn, VA passed away Friday February 10th. She is survived by her daughter Lee Anne Davis & family in San Diego, CA and her brother John David Messersmith & his wife Eliza in Edisto Island, SC, son John Messersmith in La Quinta, CA & son Champion Edmunds in Atlanta, GA. Also cousin Rexene Spraker in Galax, VA.

Linda grew up in Woodlawn, got a BS degree from Richmond Professional Institute. She was a lifelong learner earning a Master's degree in library science during her 30 year career in the Fairfax School system as a teacher and librarian. Then spent a year in San Diego to be with her daughter. Soonafter, she returned to the Washington area to work for a software company that had contracts with the Pentagon.

Several years later, she returned to Woodlawn & enjoyed her retirement years by doing portrait painting, landscape quilting as well as taking classes to enhance her skills. Her artistic talents received several accolades and awards.

She was an active member of the Woodlawn community and volunteered for the Ysmenettes with her cousin Rexene Spraker as well as exhibiting in the Galax Art Guild's art shows at the library & hospital. She will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched.

The service will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at twelve noon in the Woodlawn United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dina Clower officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time for the service at the church.

The family requests that in lieu of sending flowers, to please make a donation to one of the following : Woodlawn Methodist Church, Chestnut Creek School of the Arts, or the Galax Carroll Regional Library.
