Linda Lou Smythers Cox passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024 with her husband  and son by her side.  She was born on May   31, 1942 in Galax, Virginia.  She graduated from Woodlawn High School and later earned a BS in Education from Radford University.  She was a devoted wife and mother.  She was married to her soulmate for 62 years.  During her over 30 year teaching career, she touched the lives of many.  She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, The Virginia and National Education Associations.  In retirement, she enjoyed taking care of the home and growing her many beautiful flowers.

Mrs.  Cox was preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Vera Spivey Smythers and dear friends Carolyn Peddy and Kathleen Barker.

She is survived by her husband Harold Cox; son Mike Cox of Dublin; sister Barbara Newman & J. C. of Galax, Virginia; sisters-in-law and husbands: Hilda Cochran and Roger,  Regina Lundy and Robert all of Ennice, North Carolina; brothers-in-law and wives: Ronnie Cox and Pat, Dennis Cox and Diane all of Galax, Virginia.  Special friends Betty and Junior Patton, Debbie and Dennis Frost; Wanda Williams, and Jaime Peddy also survive as well and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Oakland United Methodist Church with Marvin Williams and Carroll Lineberry officiating.  Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
