Leonard Paul Spangler age 71 of Woodlawn, Virginia passed away Monday, January 11, 2016 in the Twin County Regional Hospital.
Leonard was born on December 7, 1944 in Roanoke, Virginia to Leonard Willington and Lyda Horton Spangler. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Betty Donithan and his twin sister Linda.
He served his country in the U S Army. He was a founding member of the Pipers Gap Rescue Squad and proudly served on the Rescue Squad for twenty-five years.
He is survived by his wife Mabel Carr Spangler of Woodlawn, Virginia; sons and daughters-in-law Brian and Lydia Spangler of Galax, Virginia; Shane and Alena Spangler; Darin and Jennifer Spangler all of Hillsville, Virginia; five grandchildren Kendall, Kevin, Taylor, Ashlynn and Paige; sisters and brothers-in-law Jewel and Bert Brannock of Ennice, North Carolina; Leota Vernon of Stuart, Virginia; Susan and Harry Freeman of Galax, Virginia; sisters-in-law and spouse Lynda Johnson; Deloris Carr; Rita and Roger Bunn; special nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Oakland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Bolen officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from six until eight at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior to the funeral service.
